As a member of Colorado Cats
Inc., I agree with the code of ethics listed below and pledge to act
in a manner consistent with this
code.
1)
I will provide
information to the public about my breed and about the proper care
of cats, to the best of my
ability.
2)
I will make every effort
to ensure that cat/kitten buyers understand my breed, its merits and
personality.
3)
I will take care to
place cats/kittens in homes that I believe will provide proper care,
will treat the animals humanely, and will not breed them
indiscriminately or for the purpose of financial gain in such a way
as to be detrimental to the breed or to any individual animal. I
will not sell cats or kittens to pet shops, pet brokers or any
organization for research.
4)
I will provide new
owners with care instructions (including information about feeding,
vaccinations, etc), and the transaction (whether a monetary sale or
adoption without fee) will be documented in a written contract that
specifies the rights and responsibilities of the people involved. I
will require that cats/kittens not be allowed to roam free and not
be declawed.
5)
If I place cats/kittens
that I have bred, I will guarantee the health of those
animals.
6)
I will not place kittens
younger than 12 weeks of age.
7)
I will sell only
cats/kittens that are eligible (or in the process of attaining
eligibility) for registration with The International Cat Association
(TICA), and will either alter all pet animals before placement in
their new home or place with a written alter
agreement.
8)
I will not knowingly
expose any cat or person to disease or unsanitary conditions. My
cats and kittens will be under the regular care of a licensed
veterinarian and will be appropriately immunized. I will provide
excellent housing and care for my animals, and will not keep more
animals than I can care for.
9)
I will abide by all of
The International Cat Association’s (TICA’s) Show
Rules.
10)
I will not hold Colorado
Cats Inc. or any agent acting on its behalf liable for enforcing
this contract or any of its provisions.
11)
Members in good standing will do
their utmost to uphold club values such as honesty and personal
integrity. For example, they will resolve issues and conflicts with
fellow club members respectfully and in the first person, and then
if necessary within the club itself, and finally with the Southwest
Regional Director. They will not engage in gossip, slander or
involve third parties.
